Reaching San Francisco

There are three airports, San Francisco International 10 miles to the south, Oakland International in the East Bay and San Jose International in Silicon Valley. San Francisco and Oakland Airports are connected to the city by the Bay Area Rapid Transit system. The San Jose airport is served by a free shuttle to the VTA Light Rail and Caltrain.  

By train
Amtrak intercity trains do not arrive at San Francisco and passengers transfer at the Amtrak station at Emeryville in the East Bay to an Amtrak California bus to the bus stop at 101 The Embarcadero.

By bus
The Greyhound terminal is inside the Transbay Transit Terminal at First and Mission streets.

By car
101 North runs up the eastern side of the Peninsula ; I-280 North is the more scenic route. I-80 approaches the city from the East crossing the San Francisco Bay Bridge . From the north, the 101 South enters San Francisco over the Golden Gate Bridge.
