San Francisco has a major financial district centering on the Embarcadero Center and Montgomery Street and known as the Wall Street of the West. The Chinese settled in San Francisco during the 1850s and the area known as Chinatown is a melting pot of markets, street vendors and vibrant colour. Nob Hill is the tallest part of San Francisco, reached by cable car and offering panoramic views across the city. On Fisherman Wharf there are restaurants, amusements, and a real bohemian style. Pier 39 is popular with visitors for its restaurants and also the spectacular bay views. North Beach stretches along the coastline and is another popular visitor attraction. In the Bay of San Francisco lies the Island of Alcatraz. Once an infamous prison and now a popular tourist attraction this is well on the tourist trail.
